Baek Hee-na is a Korean author and illustrator. She was born in Seoul and studied at Ewha Womans University before completing her education at the California Institute of the Arts in the U.S.
She has published four children's books, the most popular of which is Cloud Bread. Her books have been translated into several languages around the world, including English, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Norwegian. Some of her books have even been adapted into animations and musicals.
She recently won the 2020 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Established by the Swedish government in 2002, it is the largest children's book award in the world. This year, 240 writers competed for the award, which also comes with a prize of 5 million Swedish krona (W607 million). It is one of the largest prizes for a literary award in the world. Baek Hee-na is the first Korean author to ever win the award.
