With a population of approximately 350,000, Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the American state of Hawaii. In the Hawaiian language, the city's name translates to "sheltered harbor" or "calm port." Honolulu's history has been described by many people as turbulent, with the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy occurring in 1893 and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor taking place in 1941. Now, Honolulu is among the safest cities in the United States and ranks high on world livability rankings year after year.

 

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 54.8 percent of the people in Honolulu were Asian, making it the American city with the biggest Asian population in terms of percentage. Specifically, the biggest Asian ethnic groups in Honolulu were Japanese(19.9 percent), Filipinos(13.2 percent), Chinese(10.4 percent), Korean(4.3 percent), and Vietnamese(2 percent).

 

Honolulu has a thriving tourism industry, and the city's location in the Pacific makes it a large business and trading hub. Honolulu is known for its military defense, research and development, and manufacturing as well.

 

As for places of interest, Honolulu is the home of the Bishop Museum, which is a museum of history and science. It has the world's most extensive collection of Polynesian cultural artifacts and natural history specimens. furthermore, the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium are highly recommended for animal enthusiasts. In addition, several gardens are located in Honolulu, including the Foster Botanical Garden, Liliuokalani Botanical Garden, and Walker Estate.
