The federal government in the U.S. is very important. It is the central government of the U.S. But every state has its own government, too. And cities have governments also. 

Every state has a governor. A governor is like the president. The governor is the most powerful person in the state. And every state has a legislature. There are many members in these legislatures. They represent small sections of their states. They pass the bills that become laws in the states. 

Cities have governments, too. Most cities have mayors. Some have city managers though. A city manager is like a mayor. And the city council is like a legislature. But it usually has just a few members.
